Aikido means “the way of spiritual harmony” and consists of throwing and pinning techniques.  It emphasizes merging with the aggressor’s attack instead of opposing it.  The attack is then turned into a throw or pin which renders the attack harmless and causes not injury to the attacker.

Thus the attacker and the defender remain safe.

Because of its emphasis upon effective, yet peaceful resolutions to conflict, Aikido is a preferred method by law enforcement agencies throughout the world.

Ikkyo- “first teaching”

Aikido training is pleasant, fun, mentally and physically challenging.  It can be practiced by people of all ages at their own pace.  Aikido is non-competitive and stresses self-improvement and personal growth.

Kokyu Dosa

Students learn empty hand methods and the use of traditional Japanese weapons: the wooden sword, short staff and dagger.

Aikido as practiced at this school has only two belt classifications; white for it’s students and black for it’s instructors.  Instructor qualification is available with the permission of the head instructor.

Aikido No Kokoro Ryu is an independent dojo with no affiliations, but welcomes beginners and fellow aikido practitioners from all styles to practice with us.
